Transfer Your Problem
Lelethu Mbangi, Founder at LM Attorneys

Our Founder

Lelethu Mbangi

Lelethu grew up in Ngqeleni village outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, immersed in the day-to-day workings of his family’s business, Bucks Supermarket. Founded by his father, Crosby Mbangi, and supported by his mother, Eunice Mbangi - a teacher who believed deeply in the power of education - Bucks was one of several retail stores the family owned and operated.
From as young as five, Lelethu was learning the fundamentals of running a business, from managing stock to serving shoppers. His school holidays were spent in-store and on deliveries. The family worked seven days a week and were always available for their customers.
That upbringing shaped both his work ethic and his passion for helping family-run enterprises succeed.

When considering his tertiary studies, Lelethu had the foresight to identify a gap in the services available to South Africa’s family and founder-led businesses. Without large internal teams to rely on, they have to outsource many of their core functions including legal, accounting and tax services. But he couldn’t find a single firm or expert dedicated to serving these businesses with all the required expertise under a single roof.
To this end, Lelethu capacitated himself with the full ambit of skills and knowledge he believed these businesses warranted. Today, he holds eight qualifications, including an LLB, three Master’s degrees in Company Law, Tax Law and Business Law (Banking & Finance), making him one of the most comprehensively qualified legal and business advisors in the country. In 2013, with backing from Bucks Supermarket, he launched LM Attorneys with the express intention of serving and sustaining South Africa’s family-and-founder-led-businesses. Says Lelethu: “Family businesses are what I know. They’re how I grew up. And nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing a business succeed because it was well-advised.”
